Within their first year, all patrollers must undergo Candidate Training. This training includes OEC, toboggan operations, hill management, first-aid room operations, and chair evacuation, among other elements. In some unusual cases, candidates will exclude portions of this training (such as Auxilary patrollers who do not take toboggan training). The training cycle is described in greater depth at the Join Us page.

There are opportunities to continue training. These exist both through the NSP as well as through other, related organizations. Most common is the Senior Patroller Training, and patrollers must have been with SPVSP for a minimum of three years to be eligible.

Other types of training:

To join SPART, patrollers must take Avalanche 1 and 2, and MTR 1 and 2.
